At T&T Game Birds, we take pride in raising healthy and vibrant game birds. Three of our most popular varieties are pheasant, quail, and chukar. Each of these birds offers unique characteristics and appeal to different hunters and game enthusiasts. Let’s take a closer look:
Pheasant
The Ring-necked Pheasant (Phasianus colchicus) is a large, striking game bird. Males are especially colorful, boasting a green head, a white neck ring, and a coppery body adorned with black and white spots. Their long, pointed tail is a distinctive feature. Females are more subtly colored with brown and black markings. Pheasants are known for their explosive bursts of flight and their preference for agricultural areas and grasslands. They forage on the ground, feeding on seeds, grain, and insects.
Quail
Quail are small, plump game birds. There are many different species of quail. California Quail (Callipepla californica) are known for their distinctive comma-shaped crest or plume of feathers that droops forward. Males have black faces outlined with bold white stripes, while females are a plainer brown. Both sexes have a scaled black-and-white belly with a chestnut patch. Quail spend most of their time on the ground, walking and scratching for food in groups called coveys.
Chukar
The Chukar (Alectoris chukar) is a round, fast bird native to Eurasia but widely introduced in North America. They are known to quickly move up rocky slopes. Chukars have a short, thick, red bill, a red eye-ring, a white belly, and red legs and feet. A black band extends above the bill, through the eye, and across the upper neck, with a buff face and throat enclosed by a black necklace. They inhabit open, rocky, sagebrush-grassland areas on dry mountain slopes and canyons.
