There’s an undeniable rush that comes with a crisp morning, a loyal dog at your side, and the sudden flush of a pheasant or quail taking to the sky. It’s a primal connection to nature, a test of skill, and an experience that etches itself into your memory. At T&T Game Birds, we don’t just offer hunts; we cultivate unforgettable moments, and our members’ stories are the truest testament to “the thrill of the hunt” that defines our preserve.

We pride ourselves on providing premier hunting experiences, where the birds are strong, the fields are challenging, and the camaraderie is as rich as the West Texas landscape. But don’t just take our word for it. Here are a few snapshots from the hunts that our members have shared, capturing the essence of what makes T&T Game Birds special.

A First-Time Pheasant Hunter’s Triumph: Mark’s Story

“I’d always wanted to try pheasant hunting, but living in the city, it felt like an unattainable dream,” recounts Mark, a new T&T member from Dallas. “My first day out at T&T Game Birds, I was a bundle of nerves and excitement. The guides were incredible, patiently walking me through the ropes. Suddenly, our GSP, Belle, went on point, solid as a rock. A pheasant exploded from the cover, wings beating hard, and for a second, I froze. But the guide’s calm voice, ‘Take your shot, Mark!’ snapped me back. The shot rang out, and the bird folded. That moment – seeing Belle retrieve it, feeling the weight of that beautiful bird – it was pure adrenaline and satisfaction. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. T&T truly delivered the full thrill of the hunt.” Mark’s story highlights the supportive environment for new hunters and the genuine excitement of a successful retrieve.

The Bond of Friendship and Birds: The Johnson Brothers’ Annual Quail Hunt

For brothers David and Mike Johnson, their annual quail hunt at T&T Game Birds has become a cherished tradition. “We look forward to it all year,” says David. “It’s not just about the birds, although T&T’s quail are always strong flyers. It’s about getting away from it all, out in the open, and reconnecting. Last year, we had a covey flush that must have been 20 strong – a true explosion of wings! Mike and I both got a bird from that flush, a perfect double. Our setters worked flawlessly. Moments like that, sharing a laugh over a missed shot, celebrating a great retrieve – that’s the real thrill. T&T consistently gives us challenging hunts and memories that last a lifetime.” Their story speaks to the camaraderie and the consistent quality of the hunting experience at our preserve.

A Dog’s Dream and a Hunter’s Pride: Sarah’s Tale of Gus the Lab

Sarah, an avid retriever trainer, often brings her Labrador, Gus, to T&T Game Birds for dove and chukar hunts. “Gus lives for this,” Sarah beams. “The natural terrain at T&T is perfect for working a dog. One day, during a chukar hunt, Gus made an incredible blind retrieve in some thick brush. I thought the bird was lost, but he just kept working, nose to the ground, until he found it. Watching him bring that chukar back, tail wagging a mile a minute – that’s the thrill for me. It’s the culmination of all our training and his natural instinct. T&T provides the ideal environment for my dog to shine and for me to feel that immense pride as a handler.” Sarah’s experience underscores the excellent conditions for working dogs and the profound bond between hunter and canine.
