“I’d always wanted to try pheasant hunting, but living in the city, it felt like an unattainable dream,” recounts Mark, a new T&T member from Dallas. “My first day out at T&T Game Birds, I was a bundle of nerves and excitement. The guides were incredible, patiently walking me through the ropes. Suddenly, our GSP, Belle, went on point, solid as a rock. A pheasant exploded from the cover, wings beating hard, and for a second, I froze. But the guide’s calm voice, ‘Take your shot, Mark!’ snapped me back. The shot rang out, and the bird folded. That moment – seeing Belle retrieve it, feeling the weight of that beautiful bird – it was pure adrenaline and satisfaction. I still get goosebumps thinking about it. It’s about getting away from it all, out in the open, and reconnecting. Last year, we had a covey flush that must have been 20 strong – a true explosion of wings! Mike and I both got a bird from that flush, a perfect double. Our setters worked flawlessly. Moments like that, sharing a laugh over a missed shot, celebrating a great retrieve – that’s the real thrill. One day, during a chukar hunt, Gus made an incredible blind retrieve in some thick brush. I thought the bird was lost, but he just kept working, nose to the ground, until he found it. Watching him bring that chukar back, tail wagging a mile a minute – that’s the thrill for me. It’s the culmination of all our training and his natural instinct.
